    7. On the next screen write the name of the connection (like VISP) and click "Next":

    8. On the next screen write the 4 digit dial-up number and click "Next":

    9. On the next screen check the option " Add shortcut to this connection to my desktop" (not really required, but it is good to have it) and then click "Finish":

Make sure that your modem is correctly connected to the phone line and try to connect to VISP.

If your modem can not establish a connection with the dial-up server of Virtual ISP, then attach a phone to your phone line and try to dial the dial-up number manually. If it answers and you hear a strange high-pitched tone, it means that your phone line is fine and you are able to connect with us.

To check if your modem is detected by the computer (the PC) and operating correctly, do the following:
    1. Go to the "Start" button, then "Control Panel", then "Phone and modem options" and then choose the "Modems" tab.

    2. You should see the brand and type of your modem into the Modem list pane.

    3. Select your modem and click on "Properties"
Click on the "Query modem" button and you must see it replying with some "AT" commands.

If you are able to establish a modem connection with our dial-up server, but your password is rejected, then there are several possibilities of why this might happen:
    1. someone else is already online using your dial-up account!

    2. you are typing your password wrong! Check if the CapsLock button is off and than you keyboard is typing in English language.

    3. If you were successfully authenticated and logged in, but you still have no Internet (check with several applications - browsing, ICQ, MSN chat, mail), then you have to check your dial-up TCP/IP settings. To do it go through the following steps:

  • Click on your "Start" button (in the bottom left side on the screen) then go to "Control Panel"

  • Click on "Network connections"

  • Right-click (with the right mouse button) on your VISP dial-up connection icon and choose "Properties"

  • Click on "Networking"

  • Make sure that the type of the dial-up server you are calling is set to PPP (it must be like this by default, the other choice is SLIP - do NOT use that one)

  • Mark (click once) on the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" line and then click on "Properties"

  • Make sure that the IP address and the DNS server address are obtained automatically.

  • Then click on "Advanced" and check that the fields "Use default gateway on remote network" and "Use IP header compression" are CHECKED.
